The Fukushima meltdown has renewed interest in UK nuclear policies.

Certain people have even invested in nuclear bunkers to defend their families against the possibility of future nuclear accidents in the United Kingdom. The online company Tool-net has also recorded an increase in generator sales in the last few months. The public's faith in nuclear power has been greatly decreased in the aftermath of Fukushima.
The UK has a long nuclear history, which has been marred by three accidents. The worst of these occurred in 1957 when over 30 people died due to radiation over-exposure. The most recent nuclear accident was a 2005 uranium leakage that cost over £40 million to control.
Approximately 15% of the United Kingdom's electricity is supplied by 19 nuclear reactors in various locations. Nuclear meltdown at any of these reactors would leave thousands of UK citizens without electricity. This fear when coupled with risk of radiation poisoning has left many wondering whether the UK's reliance on nuclear power is a good idea.
The Japanese were completely unprepared for the catastrophe when the reactors went into meltdown. Some groups have warned against UK complacency and called for a re-evaluation of safety procedures.
Experts claim that the UK is safe from a similar disaster, because the area has no history of extreme seismic activity. The largest earthquake in UK history only measured 5.75 on the Richter scale, which is comparably low when placed next to the Japan's disaster.
Many members of the public refuse to accept these claims and they have initiated plans to protect themselves from the possibility of a nuclear disaster. Sales in old cold war bunkers have increased throughout the world. Tool-net says that generators, particularly small models like the Clarke FG2000, are being used to prepare these bunkers. In the post-Cold-War world, it seems that people have become more afraid of nuclear meltdown, than atomic attacks.
