The Changing Face Of UK Relationships Marriage And Children
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) may indicate that marriage levels have dropped to their lowest in the United Kingdom since 1895.
United Kingdom (ePressReleases.org) July 28, 2010 - However the results of a study by relationship experts eHarmony reveal that belief in marriage remains a key feature in today's relationships and social interactions. The studypolled 3000 British men and women and found that "traditional attitudes" were particularly prevalent amongst the male respondents in terms of the value of marriage for bringing up children. This research indicates that Brits still considered marriage to be best for kids, even though last month's ONS figures revealed that women in the UK these days are more likely to be a "Mum" than a "Mrs".
So why is this? Nearly half of all the eHarmony male respondents considered that marriage is best for raising kids, with 42% of the female respondents agreeing. 61% furthermore considered marriage to be a natural step in confirming commitment. Yet it's due to the pressures of career and financial independence, according to eHarmony Labs Senior Director of Research Dr Gian Gonzaga, that recent marriage rate statistics don't necessarily reflect British values and beliefs. He elaborates: "People are getting married later because of the pressures of career and financial independence but that does not equate to a change in attitude or belief in the institution of marriage. Whether they were 16 or 60, single, in a relationship, married or divorced, more than one third of people we spoke to believed it's important for children to have married parents."
The survey respondents came from all sorts of age, location and relationship backgrounds:, single, married and divorced as well as those in London, Manchester and Bristol dating. General results indicated that the belief in marriage is still strong, particularly among the younger age groups. In the 16-24 category, 59% of respondents believe marriage is "a natural step in confirming your commitment", whilst less than 20% feel it is outdated or irrelevant. 36% of younger respondents consider marriage to be important for bringing up children.
eHarmony.co.uk launched in 2008. eHarmony Labs, the company's Pasadena, California-based research centre and the Oxford Internet Institute at the University of Oxford partnered to gather and analyse data identifying patterns that predict compatibility for couples throughout the UK. The goal: to offer UK singles a relationship service based on scientific models known as the Compatibility Matching SystemT. Dr Gonzaga is the senior director of research at eHarmony Labs, and has received numerous honours and awards for his work teaching, presenting and publishing extensively on topics relating to relation.

The famous boyband Take That, which took the world by storm back in 1991, have officially reunited thanks to the much-publicised return of original member Robbie Williams.

Starting as a five-man group, they quickly became the boyband of the century. A succession of similar talent quickly followed, but none equalled the achievement and appeal of the original.
Their last tour as a group was named "Nobody Else" in 1995. Williams left during this time, leaving the other members to continue as a foursome for a brief period. Sadly though, this quickly came to a permanent halt when they announced their separation soon after.
"Never Forget" became their signature tune and their last release. Ten years later, a large gap formed in the music market. Gary Barlow, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Howard Donald came together once more. The reformation quickly paid off with number one hits and a sell-out tour. The demand for Take That tickets seemed to be higher than ever.
For enthusiastic, loyal fans who can't get enough, Viagogo has officially announced the new tour on their website. So far, the only destinations to be announced are London and Italy. There is an option to sign up for ticket alerts to be kept informed about the release dates. Many hardcore supporters will no doubt be waiting anxiously to obtain a set of these monumental tickets.
The group members have all expressed their joy at the return of an original member. Hopefully there will be a lot more success to come - a much-anticipated album is currently being penned and set to be released in November.
There is no word yet about which tracks will be featured. Stuart Price will be behind the production, having already worked with Madonna, and the currently untitled album is already hotly tipped for the number one spot this Christmas. With the big 2011 tour soon to follow, this is certainly not the last that anyone will hear of pop legends Take That.

Once you've built up the tension, you surf into the wave, riding it to its crest, when you use all the power stored up to explode into your jump. As you go into the air, the kite needs to be snapped overhead and then turned into the wind to glide down again. As it's plain to see, jumps require knowledge in several areas and a good deal of practice - beginners should only approach them with the help of an instructor.

It has become more important to get a head start to secure the high grades required for admission to their chosen courses", says educational consultant Alvin Costello. "Compared with ten years ago, there are now more students keen to pursue a university education. The increase in the number of applications means the screening process has become more stringent. Gaining higher grades is mandatory to qualify for leading universities here. Summer schools offer students an edge over their peers. They realise that the harder they study during the long summer holidays, the easier it will be to crack the tough academic year ahead", adds secondary school teacher Linda Bergstrom.
Traditionally, summer schools were considered as stepping stones for gaining extra credits, or making up for credits lost during the academic year. "We call these 'methods for remediation or advancement'. Remediation is the method to improve the grades secured during the academic year to bolster transcripts and improve averages. There are also students who enrol on courses to obtain credits so they can qualify for a degree or to lessen the academic load during the regular curriculum year", explains Simon Schuster, an educational counsellor.
Summer schools have not been immune to the effects of globalisation either. Increasingly, international students are seeking admission to summer schools in the UK. Most of these are students from south-east Asian countries, who often head to language schools for English courses. There is a popular misconception that international students go to UK summer schools just to get the credits required to secure admission to a UK university course. Parents are also enrolling their children on summer courses at junior schools. "'Train them young' seems to be the competitive motto these days. Language skills are best improved at the junior English school level: the older the student, the longer it could take them to master the nuances of a foreign language", explains Gerard Butler, who runs English courses for international students.
