Summer Schools England
Skola introduces the new Workskills Plus programme, a certified course by Edexcel, one of the leading awarding bodies within the United Kingdom. The course consists of a total of 52 weeks (a full year) of study. The first 26 weeks are spent in traditional classroom-based study. During the second set of 26 weeks, the student will get hands-on experience doing paid work in the hospitality industry, or engaging in unpaid internships at a variety of businesses.
The main goal of the Workskills Plus programme is to give students the tools and qualifications required to obtain employment and build their confidence. To achieve this goal, the programme builds on the ABC (Attitude, Behaviour and Communication) framework for employability to build the skills that employers look for. Finishing the course leads to a qualification at level 3 accredited on the National Qualification Framework. To qualify for this program, students must already posses a minimum English level of intermediate.

ICS Students Serve Soup In Fund-Raiser
Students from the IC School took part in the Salvation Army's Soup Kitchen Challenge, held during late November.

Learners of all ages participated and worked hard to make and serve a feast to be remembered. Due to the success of the enterprise the school hopes it can repeat its blockbuster performance this year.

Truly setting a new date in the charity fund-raising calendar, the Soup Kitchen Challenge encourages people to host a soup lunch for their family, friends or work colleagues in return for donations that go towards The Salvation Army. Hosting an event is available for everyone, regardless of culinary abilities, and recipes from the nation's top chefs are frequently posted on The Salvation Army's website. For the students at the ICS, the challenge was a great opportunity to reach out to the community that has been supporting these types of initiatives and supporting both the educational and social well-being of many families for a long time. The Life Skills class is devoted to the continued support of these social and ethical accomplishments.

Lean Manufacturing TPM
TPM And Kanban Lead To Higher Profitability
TPM pillar of Total Lean Management (TLM) increases machine OEE to 85%.
Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India (ePressReleases.org) Jan 19, 2010 - TPM (Autonomous Maintenance / Jishu Hozen ) and Kanban lead to dramatic changes in PET Strap manufacturing Plant. PET Strap manufacturing plant in Thailand, has an installed plant capacity of 265 tons, with a customer base in Asia Pacific, Australia region.
The plant was manufacturing only 150-160 tons / month, against the monthly demand of nearly 250 tons. The profitability was drained out because of high production costs and overheads and rejection of nearly 10%.
Add Value Consultant team started off in May 09 with the Gemba walk and primary data collection. Primary Data revealed the health of the organization; critical but could be improved.
The observations:
• Lack of awareness of basic lean tools
• 5S not applied
• Die change over time approx 4 hours
• Machine down time and idle time extremely high
• Required spares not available
• Frequent customer complaints of delayed shipments and quality.
• Low finished goods velocity
• Customer satisfaction index = 60%
The Lean Transformation Process:
A TPM team was formed and the pillar head was appointed to drive and motivate the team. The team was receptive to the new learning’s and subsequently sustaining the changes.
The data was collected for the previous months and OEE, MTBF and MTTR were calculated. All the machine parameters were far below the normal standards. Lower through put time across the value chain increased the inventory turns and thereby increased the profitability of the organization. Currently inventory models ( kanban ) are being extended to the distribution and logistics.

PET Strap manufacturing plant in Thailand, has an installed plant capacity of 265 tons, with a customer base in Asia Pacific, Australia region.
The plant was manufacturing only 150-160 tons / month, against the monthly demand of nearly 250 tons. The profitability was drained out because of high production costs and overheads and rejection of nearly 10%.
Add Value Consultant team started off in May 09 with the Gemba walk and primary data collection. Primary Data revealed the health of the organization; critical but could be improved.
The observations:
• Lack of awareness of basic lean tools
• 5S not applied
• Die change over time approx 4 hours
• Machine down time and idle time extremely high
• Required spares not available
• Frequent customer complaints of delayed shipments and quality.
• Low finished goods velocity
• Customer satisfaction index = 60%
The Lean Transformation Process:
A TPM team was formed and the pillar head was appointed to drive and motivate the team. The team was receptive to the new learning’s and subsequently sustaining the changes.
The data was collected for the previous months and OEE, MTBF and MTTR were calculated. All the machine parameters were far below the normal standards.
