Strategic Business Growth Plans

Small businesses, growth is the holy grail.

United Kingdom (ePressReleases.org) Dec 22, 2010 - However, it isn't easy to achieve growth, and increasing product sales can sometimes seem like mission impossible. Luckily, it's not impossible, and there are some simple things that can help a company expand successfully.

Firstly, to boost sales, people need to know that you exist and that they can buy your product. While this might sound easy, it isn't - the easiest, broadest reaching marketing methods, such as advertising on radio and television, are often prohibitively expensive for small businesses. So, that means you often need to get creative about marketing and appealing to people. Things such as cross-marketing and partnering with other similar businesses can help, and asking friends and family to use branded items such as bags, car stickers and anything else you think of to raise awareness is also a good strategy for local advertising. Trade fairs, distributing flyers, and using bright, original branding also play their part in spreading the word that everyone should be buying your product.

Once sales have increased, another consideration comes into play: stock management. Successful businesses are able to match supply and demand to ensure they don't overproduce things that won't sell or run out of things that do. If customers are left disappointed by a lack of stock, they may be forced to find an equivalent elsewhere, which could mean you lose their business forever. Until just after the second world war, stock inventories were all manually completed; however, the invention of the bar code revolutionised the process, and since then, bar codes have been used on virtually every consumer good. It is possible to store much more information in a bar code than on the product packaging in writing. Additionally, by scanning bar codes, managers may see what is selling, when and where. Successful lines can be further developed, and differences in seasonal and regional sales can be analysed. At the same time, less successful products can be discontinued. Sales incentives for staff can be introduced, and most importantly, through linking to production, you can ensure that supply will meet demand at all times.
