Preparation For Boarding School

An International Environment In England

Alexanders International School is a member of the SKOLA group of schools.

United Kingdom (ePressReleases.org) Sep 27, 2010 - It has primary and secondary day schools in central London offering the IB curriculum and a variety of English language courses for adults and children.

The 120-acre campus has fully supervised accommodation in four separate residences for boys and girls. The school provides high-quality English language tuition in combination with school subjects to students aged 11 to 17. In 2009, the pass levels for subjects at Alexanders were 100% for Entry Level certificates in sciences, maths, business studies and ICT; and high pass levels for all IGCSE subjects were achieved by students. You will improve your English, build academic knowledge and develop study skills as well as get an introduction to life in the UK. IGCSEs and Cambridge exams can be taken in June and help with school entrance exams. Come in June, July and August for the popular summer school also available.

Boys and girls are all resident on campus in separate boarding houses, each supervised by resident staff. Students share rooms with one, two or three other children of different nationalities where possible. Each bedroom has a wash basin, and on each corridor, there are bathrooms, showers and toilets. A classroom in each house is also set aside for study. There is a simple kitchen in each of the houses where students can prepare a snack during the evening or at weekends.

The school offers English language courses throughout the year, including their Foundation course, which prepares students who wish to enter a UK boarding school. This is a one-year course, but students may join at any time of the year. As Alexanders is independent, it can advise on the most appropriate choice of school and support students in their applications for their chosen schools. The maximum class size is 15, and pupils of all levels - from complete beginners to advanced - are welcome.

Alister Laidlaw, the school head, comments:

"Throughout the 25 years that I have been at Alexanders International School, it has been my great pleasure to have welcomed young people from more than 70 countries," and adds that "for the majority, it was their first experience of life in a foreign country". This allows not only preparation for boarding school but an understanding to be fostered between staff and students, which helps tremendously with the difficulties of coping with learning a language and adapting to cultural differences. Alexanders provides a safe and caring environment to allow each and every student to develop educationally and emotionally.
