A Celebration Of Diversity The ICS Admissions Policy
The International Community School (ICS) recognises that each student has multiple strengths and qualities to bring to the community.
United Kingdom (ePressReleases.org) Sep 27, 2010 - As such, it offers an inclusive admissions policy. Admissions inquiries can be made by email and telephone, culminating in an informal interview with members of the admissions team, at which prior school reports, sample pieces of work or portfolios are shared. Where possible, students will also be observed in their current school. Alternatively, they will be encouraged to attend a trial day at ICS. Established in 1979, ICS is an international school in central London with small classes (the average class size is 16). ICS is an inclusive school, which specialises in teaching students of different abilities. At ICS, there is a foundation English for education department, which provides intensive English for students aged 3 to 18 at all levels, all year round.
ICS offers the three IB programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students aged 3 to 11; the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students aged 11 to 16; and from September 2010, the IB Diploma Programme for students aged 16 to 19. The three programmes form a coherent sequence of education by promoting the education of the whole person through an emphasis on intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth. In all three programmes, the education of the whole person is manifested through all domains of knowledge, involving the major traditions of learning in languages, humanities, sciences, mathematics and the arts. The English for education department at ICS has developed a foundation programme, which acts as the bridge to full curriculum courses.
Students are able to join at all ages, at all levels of English and at any time of the year. The programme is structured around classroom activities with a language focus. English is taught through maths, sciences, ICT, art, music and humanities, culminating in the full curriculum lessons. The summer school is open to students from beginner to advanced level. Classes have themes such as youth culture, the environment, and life in Britain. ICS puts emphasis on developing students' communication skills and helping them to interact socially and negotiate their needs with other students. This is a full school programme with weekly excursions and sports activities.
The IB curriculum requires study across a broad range of subjects, drawing on content from educational cultures around the world and giving special emphasis to language acquisition and development. ICS is a truly international school London offers. The school can provide homestay accommodation for 11 to 17-year-olds, or younger children if accompanied by an adult. A door-to-door minibus is also available, which serves central London.
