Summertime Fun For Teachers And Students
40 years ago, Neils Toettcher and Ann Alexander formed the Marble Arch Intensive English School in Central London to teach English to adults.
East Anglia, UK (ePressReleases.org) May 25, 2010 - SKOLA was born out of their efforts and has now expanded to provide general education, special educational needs, English for children above the age of three, English language tuition for adults, teacher training, education consultancy and an international trust for students who require special education.
SKOLA Teacher Training was set up in 1983 with the aim of using the expertise within the organisation to run a variety of pre-service and in-service teacher training courses for teachers of both adults and younger learners. The department is focused on individuals. It is friendly and has a reputation for innovation. Situated in Central London, it is equipped with excellent facilities and a variety of resources. The training institutes are located in sites across London: Paddington, Marble Arch, Regent's Park, Soho and Camden. There is also an international boarding school in Bawdsey for children between the ages of 11 to 17, called Alexanders. For children, the curriculum teaches English through academic subjects so that they are well equipped for the full curriculum taught in the UK. Adult courses, on the other hand, are also linked to work experience programmes. Students improve their English for general, academic or business needs.
As part of its cultural initiative, SKOLA also offers Summer School London courses every July and August for General English. The course consists of 15 hours a week and it is held in Regent's Park, within walking distance from Baker Street Underground Station. The institute is perfect for adults and parents of junior students currently studying with SKOLA, as it is located less than 5 minutes away from the SKOLA Primary School. Another centre at Ascot, situated 30 minutes from Heathrow Airport, is tailored for students who want to experience a taste of British life while improving their English. The school arranges excursions - two half-day and one full-day - where students are taken to visit various points of interest in London and the South of England along with their 15 hours of English language training every week.
In addition, the organisation also organises popular summer courses for its Summer school England initiative in its centres across England, offering intensive English tuition for people of all ages, subject to demand. Alexanders International School runs a 4 week summer school programme at Culford School, located 30 minutes from Cambridge. The classes focus on communicaiton skills, with a particular emphasis on diction and pronunciation. The school also arranges full-day study excursions to places in the East of England: Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Colchester, Ipswich and Norwich. Students are encouraged to prepare for the excursion as well as engage in follow-up work. They are also taken to London over the weekend for sightseeing, museum visits and shopping.
