UK Attracts More International Students This Year

The admissions records already show a 12 per cent increase in the number of students expected to arrive in the UK.

London, UK (ePressReleases.org) May 21, 2010 - Universities across the United Kingdom have been enhancing their recruitment initiatives to attract more international students each year. International students account for over 15 per cent of full-time undergraduates in the UK and over half the total number of postgraduates registered in universities across the UK.

Reports suggest that if the rate at which the number of international students arriving in the UK for higher education continues, the net value of the foreign student community to the UK's education sector could reach 20 billion pounds within the next 10 years. "The competition in the international education sector is fierce. The main contenders for international students are primarily the US, UK and Australia. There are currently hectic debates within the education industry to understand what are the conditions that are conducive to attracting foreign students to universities", claims educator Shay Hannigan.

With an attractive one year postgraduate course format and a variety of options for courses, the UK's education system has been a major magnet for international students. "The international community of students arriving in the UK every year comprises mainly students from the South East Asian countries of China, Japan and South Korea. There is also a fair number of students from the Indian sub-continent currently studying in the UK, and then those from various African countries. We also get a large number of students from European Union countries every year. We are trying to tap into this vital market too, as more and more students from within the European Union seem inclined to pursue their education away from home", reveals an international liaison officer with one of the UK's leading universities.

Besides offering attractive courses at university level, the UK also provides international students with excellent English language schools. There are many overseas students who arrive primarily to Study English London. An English Course London not only coaches non-native speakers in adept handling of the language, it also helps students to prepare for the universities of their choice. Many students claim that it is the overall student experience provided by UK universities that make it such an attractive choice for overseas students.
