Hollywood's Spanish Romance

Hollywood has never been shy of acknowledging Spanish influences on its films.

Spain (ePressReleases.org) April 28, 2010 - Though it is just a tiny dot across the Atlantic from the Movie Mecca, artists from Spain have often been the toast of Hollywood. The country's romance with Hollywood and film-making makes it a movie buff's dream holiday destination.

Many Spanish movies make it to the Oscar Awards night every year, and if it's not the movies then it is often the actors who walk away with the top honours. There are few male leads with nimbler feet than the Spaniards in Hollywood - and certainly, fewer who can break female hearts, even with a mask on like Antonio Banderas; or speaking Spanish-flavoured English like Javier Bardem. And among the Spanish women to leave an everlasting mark on Hollywood, Penelope Cruz continues to top that list. With her mentor Pablo Almodovar's movies continuing to be the toast of B-town, the hold of Spanish language and culture over moviegoers is rivalled only by the French.

It's not just about the people behind the movies. Spanish music, especially flamenco, often adds an exotic flavour to many original soundtracks immortalised on celluloid. Jennifer Aniston recently made bold headlines when, during the promotion of her latest movie 'The Bounty Hunter', she showed off her flamenco moves alongside professional flamenco dancers.

With Hollywood's ongoing romance with Spain fuelling so many blockbusters, holidaying in Spain has become a fashionable vacation idea in America, driving along the scenic locales of the Mediterranean, in particular Andalusia. "I loved Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona so much that my boyfriend and I saved up for a whole year to be able to take this vacation in Spain", claims Jemma Bryant, a tourist from Idaho in the US. Many movie buffs like Jemma also use their vacation in Spain to study Spanish abroad. While on vacation, Spanish study abroad also gives enthusiasts a chance to enjoy Spanish films that rarely make it outside of Mediterranean shores. "We have always been major fans of Spanish cinema, and there are many great Spanish directors who are rarely heard of outside Spain. So our film club decided to travel to Spain to see and study movies here, as well as soak in some of Spain's famous hospitality", says Jerard Robinson, President of the New Hampshire Film Buff club.
