Artistic Brighton Vibes For Fringe Festival

The Oriental, a leading boutique hotel in Brighton, is proud to announce its involvement in the Brighton Fringe Festival with an exhibition of the works of former resident artist Patrick O'Donnell.

Brighton, UK (ePressReleases.org) April 21, 2010 - London, 20 April, 2010: Entitled "You make Me Gay" the exhibition features forgotten or overlooked gay icons and will be exhibited at The Oriental's gallery space for the month of May.

As part of the Brighton Fringe Festival, The Oriental is set to continue its commitment to 'Brighton Art' and will be displaying the latest exhibition from artist Patrick O'Donnell. Previous artists exhibited in the space include local figures such as Aaron Holmes and Scott Allen, and the hotel is proud to showcase local art. The Oriental has long played a role in Brighton's cultural diversity and for many years the site was considered as an artistic hub as well as integral to the Brighton music scene.

Patrick O'Donnell describes his latest project as 'almost coming full circle in terms of genre as this is what I started doing when I first began to paint.' He adds that in the process of working with the depictions of the show's protagonists, he 'became fascinated with the idea of capturing overlooked, marginalised or forgotten figures and decided to paint personal heroes who had informed my sensibility.' Like 'beacons in the darkness' these personages are portrayed in a classical and caravaggesque manner to reflect the gravity and importance of their influence upon the life of the artist.

In what promises to be a fascinating exhibition, visitors will furthermore have the chance to win their very own icon painted specially by the artist. 10% of any sales will go to the UK's leading and largest HIV and sexual health charity, the Terence Higgins Trust.

The exhibition is not something typical for boutique hotels Brighton, and the initiative is in fact part of the Brighton Fringe Festival, the largest open access arts festival in England and one of the largest and fastest-growing in the world. The festival was created in 1967, but only became known as the Brighton Fringe Festival in 2002.

"You make Me Gay" by Patrick O'Donnell will be showing at The Oriental between 1 and 31 May 2010.
