This award best highlights the special bond between people and their treasured pets, promoting the strengthening of this bond and highlighting the special relationship between a dog and its owner, as well as between dogs and veterinarians. Along with the recognition, Barbara received a $500 cash prize along with a $250 travel stipend for attending the event.
Over 70 years ago there was no such thing as a dog writer. There were newsmen and newswomen and magazine writers. Most of the papers assigned sportswriters, reporters and even copyboys to cover dog shows. These writers's made the dog world a part of our popular culture. Dog Writer's Association of America now secures courtesies and amenities at dog shows so dog writers are recognized as professionals across the country.
Barbara says, "I feel so honored to be among such distinguished writer's who have the same passion as I do in regards to dogs and the incredible bond we share with our animals whether they are our companions or we work with them in competition sport. Though Frankie could not be at the dinner, she did make the trip with us and I could not help but be grateful once again for all she has taught me. Without her, this trip to New York and the award would have never been possible."
